Hope for Haiti is favorably mentioned in a white paper recently published<\/span><\/a> by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS)<\/a> for Strategic and International Studies, a prominent bipartisan and nonprofit policy research organization dedicated to advancing practical ideas to address the world\u2019s greatest challenges. The paper, titled “Ensuring NGO Accountability for Reconstruction and Humanitarian Relief in Ukraine,” includes a section about the importance of TPM (third-party monitoring) in fighting corruption in Afghanistan and Haiti, and lists Hope for Haiti and the World Food Program as two success stories.<\/p>\n

The section reads: <\/strong><\/p>\n

“Another success story in TPM [third party monitoring] is Hope for Haiti. The 2010 earthquake that struck the Caribbean country led to an immediate aid infusion. Because aid money was funneled to NGOs, many of which were corrupt and unaccountable, Haiti has since been derisively called a \u2018republic of NGOs.\u2019 Haitian organizations have been accused of overpaying staff, mismanaging funds, and focusing on short-term projects at the expense of long-run rebuilding. Hope for Haiti, however, employs local staff and focuses on long-term impact in areas including education, health, infrastructure, water, and economic opportunity. Every year<\/span><\/a>, the organization is audited, files a Form 990 with the IRS, releases a report, and is evaluated by both Charity Navigator and Candid, from whom it has received the highest ratings. Amid widespread corruption, Hope for Haiti has demonstrated that TPM and accountability can translate donor funding into positive charitable impact.<\/strong>“<\/p>\n

Led by Miss Claudine Francois<\/a>(Public Health Program Coordinator) and Miss Valiola (Community Health Nurse), our new Community Health Workers began training for their roles with Hope for Haiti last week.<\/p>\n

Community Health Workers (CHWs) serve as liaisons between medical providers and the community. They advocate for change and cultural competency of the health services delivered, as well as improving access to this quality care.<\/p>\n
